Shadow’s Edge in French: Le Choix des Ombres
by
Between my belabored French and Google Translate, it looks like Le Choix des Ombres is being released in France this month, August. Again, Prix Imaginales winner Frederic Perrin has done a marvelous job with the cover art. Thank you, Frederic and Bragelonne!
Why isnt the american cover art that bad ass?
That is some awesome cover art, but it looks more like the Godking than I’d expect Kylar or Durzo to look. Still, amazing work.
I have been thinking (aka hoping) that if there is ever a film adaptation greenlit for NAT (again, crossed fingers) I think that even though we have all these advances in special effects tech, this series would really be better lent to a very stylized animated film. I don’t think anything else would do it justice.
I honestly can’t decide whether I like that or not. Good thing I’m not French. 🙂
The whole cover art and livery issue is one that intrigues me as a reader. I found out the other day that the US and UK liveries seem to be the same, escept for the placement of the black bar with the taglines on – it seems to be in different places. Also one of the books (I can’t remember which but it’s 2 or 3) is mirrored.
An author friend once told me tht the author gets very little or no say in what goes on the front of their books, but do authors get told why different places use different artwork?
The cover art looks great! I’m currently re-reading The Way of Shadows
because I simply can’t find a book I enjoy more. PUBLISH ANOTHER BOOK
A.S.A.P. please. I need something to do with my time 🙂

OMGosh! its so beautiful! i love how his hair is blowing in the wind(sorry if i sound fan girlish) but i will allways love the original the best! i love that guy in his wet boy grays! =3
Yeah, Kylar looks alot more like a bad ass in that picture then the North American versions. A North American variant cover like that would be awesome.
About translations – I have just finished reading “The Way of the Shadow” in Polish. It was quite entertaining (even all the Thanks in the end) but translations is awful. Please tell the publisher to change editors and translator. There is a LOT of mistakes (typos – but in Polish a typo can change a male talk into a female one…). There are comments about it on the polish publisher site as well – so they should know by now. 🙂
All the best.
P.S. Night Angel way better (and more creative / original) than Shannara. 🙂
LOVE The French Cover Art.
I Kinda Wish My Copies Had This Art.
Good Work. Very Good Work.
Oh man, why couldn’t the english version had that art? Thats totally badass.
Why can’t the American version have this cover?! It’s freaking awesome! I’m tempted to buy it just for the cover.
Going to have to say… The French cover looks so much cooler then the American. I kept passing it by at the book store, until one day, I got trapped with nothing to do for 6 or so hours, and began reading ‘The Way of Shadows’. I loved it, and bought the whole trilogy right then and there. I would’ve picked it up sooner if it would’ve had a better looking cover on it.
That cover art does the characters justice!
I’ll have to agree with what ”December 21st, 2009 at 2:24 pm Luke” Said, the story and the way you write is very nice its one of the best book I ever read but the French translation is so-so work on that for your next books since they’re all 3 already Translated… Also lol there’s one thing i wanted to ask you.. this book is about swords/magic and stuff but, at some point in the first book, you compare a noise to a chainsaw(mechanical saw) or w/e.. It felt ackward/weird(sorry if there’s a mistake in the word) 😛 Anyways, Good work keep it going!
Papou,
First, thanks!
Second, it was a “saw” as in a sawmill. The use of sawmills dates back to the third century, so it is well within my novel’s time frame.
Third, translating is hideously difficult, so I think of them more as adaptations than as perfectly faithful reproductions. I trust my foreign editors to do the best they can. Languages are different, so nuances are always lost, and a translator doesn’t have five years to get my three books perfect. It’s always in everyone’s interest that the translation be as good as possible, but it’s a difficult task. I think I do get my translators’ best effort, and that, honestly, is good enough for me.
nice artwork, surprised nobody else was reminded of assassin’s creed though.
