Retailers Still Taking Pre-Orders
by
Many of you have no doubt heard that Amazon and Hachette are in the middle of contract negotiations. Amazon has increased shipping times, removed discounts, and suspended pre-orders for many Hachette books, including mine. Here is a list of links to retailers who stock my books in the United States.
This is not an exhaustive list. Feel free to add quality booksellers in the comments. I grabbed ones I have visited personally or that I’ve heard are excellent.
P.S. If you pre-order The Broken Eye from any retailer, U.S. or international, take a quick picture or a screengrab of your receipt. No promises, but I’m trying hard to come up with a nice pre-order bonus for you. I’ll post about that in the future.

As far as I know, Cole’s and Chapter’s is still offering pre-order in Canada, with discounts and all that jazz through plum rewards, indigo and other reward card programs.
Cool good to know Barnes & Noble ships to Canada, I pre ordered within 5 minutes of seeing this post this morning! Only going to the comments section now and seeing that Jordan said you can preorder it from Chapters, I did a quick price check and B&N takes the cake with my total being 25$ instead of 31$.
when is the pre order for the audiobook going to start
Hudson Booksellers, your favorite airport bookseller, has your book available to pre-order online, AND it is 40% off! We support Hachette and all their authors!

For Dayton, OH … Books and Co. (It’s part of the Books-a-Million group)
Bookworks in Albuquerque, New Mexico has online options and is incredibly reputable.
I ordered my copy from Amazon back on 12 Dec 2013 (working on getting that screenshot); however, now I wonder if they are going to honor their “deliver the day it becomes available” promise, or backlog it by 2 weeks. Unacceptable.
I have gone out to the B&N website and just ordered a second copy ( at $2.50 cheaper, might I add) *AND* added a B&N account. Amazon is shooting themselves in the foot on this one.
I am in the same boat trunuyawkr. My amazon pre-order still says delivery on August 26th but I am worried they may delay the order. I think I may just pre-order from somewhere else and cancel my Amazon order.. not worth the risk.
Is it August yet???
I have a couple questions:
I have preordered from The Signed Page; but I want to order another hard cover copy for lending to friends and for reading myself (I like to keep the signed copy unread). Does anyone know if B&N does the deliver on day it is released or if they have an option to pick up in store?
Oh, sorry, I forgot my other question: where do I submit my reciept screen shot to?
Thanks again! I can’t wait for The Broken Eye!
Hey Adam,
Brent’s assistant here. We’re not taking the pre-order receipts quite yet! That will be some weeks from now — we’ll be posting to Brent’s website and social media as soon as we’re ready to do that, so stayed tuned!
As for B&N delivery day, this is the only info I could find: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/help/cds2.asp?pid=8112#8
Hope that helps!
Does that mean my pre-order with Amazon.co.UK will no longer be honoured? Should I just go to Featherstone or something?
Hi Lorraine,
As far as I know, pre-orders with Amazon.co.uk will be unaffected. And I believe that the US pre-orders that people made before Amazon removed the Pre-order Button will be honored too (see the last paragraph of this article: http://lunch.publishersmarketplace.com/2014/05/amazon-removes-pre-order-buttons-forthcoming-hachette-titles/)
That’s a relief, though, I might just go to waterstones anyway… wouldn’t want there to be any problems! Plus, two copies has got to be better than one, right? :))
Reader’s Guide in Salem, Oregon (the independent store I work at) is taking orders for The Broken Eye. Please call or stop by our store to place an order. We don’t ship but people that have trade-in credit with us can use it for up to 25% off the list price. For titles by other Hachette authors we’ll be happy to see if they’re available through our distributors.

How can we pre-order in South Africa.
My amazon.co.uk pre order is still fine
So… If I pre-ordered the e-book instead of the hardcover copy, am I in?
Yep, just save the receipt to send us (once we’re ready to start accepting them. Stay tuned for more details!)
that’s a relief 😀 I move around a lot so as much as I love the classical feeling of holding an actual book in my hands, it’s just not practical lugging hundreds of books around everywhere I go.
Hey, thanks for all of these recommendations. I’ve added them to the list above. And for those ordering in other countries, the Hachette/Amazon fight is limited to the U.S. For those of you who have already pre-ordered with Amazon, it’s my understanding that they are honoring pre-orders that have already been placed.
Wish I had waited for the signed book to pre-order ;D
Oh well, lucky I got my pre-order in before they stopped wanting to ship to Australia. Only bad thing is it will most likely get here later than release in Australia. The price to pay for the hard cover.
Thank you for letting me know. I thought I had preordered the book from Amazon, but when I checked it had changed to waiting to be notified when it would be available. I have preordered it now from Barnes and Noble. I can’t wait to read it especially after that faux teaser you gave at Bubonicon last year.

Hi Ellen,
We’re not taking preorder receipts quite yet! We’ll post to this website and Brent’s social media if/when we’re able to do a bonus for preorders, and we’ll let you know how to submit a receipt. Stay tuned!
Just read a blog post from Hugh Howey on the Amazon vs. Hachette dispute that made a lot of sense. I think Hugh might be right that Amazon is hedging itself with the pre-orders.
http://www.hughhowey.com/another-explanation-for-the-hachette-delays/
For those of us outside the US that have strong feelings toward the way Amazon is throwing their weight around, and have desire to support this behaviour, any suggestions on pre-order sites?
Personally I’ll just be sprinting down to the bookshop soon as I hear we have it in New Zealand. That and relentlessly pushing the series at my job (I work at a library 😉 )
Is there anywhere I can order a preorder of the book that will work on a Kindle, such as a DRM-free ebook format? I really would rather not buy a physical copy of the book.
And if I can, I would willingly always buy the DRM-free version from that place in the future, even at a slightly higher price.
Hachette, the parent company of Brent’s publisher Orbit, insists on DRM on all of their titles. However, if you do buy the book, there are programs such as Calibre that strip the DRM off. Brent asks that you not use this for piracy.
I came to post the same thing – all of my ebooks are within my kindle program, and I’d rather not have to start using Google play or iBooks in addition to the kindle app. It sounds like you’re saying that calibre can strip DRM from a copy from one if these eBook stores and provide me with an epub I can upload into my kindle app. Is that correct? Is there any information on how to accomplish this? Is very much like to buy this in eBook format, but I’m not even sure if Google play bookstore or iBook store let you download the files that you purchase.
Thanks
