World Fantasy & Halloween Contest 2012

For those of you who are in San Diego and/or attending the World FantasyConvention this week, please come say hi! First, I’ll be at the Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore in San Diego for an informal gathering of fantasy authors tonight at 6:00 pm. Some restrictions do apply due to the nature of the event, so please contact the staff. More details here.

I’ll also be on a panel on Thursday at World Fantasy Convention (details below), and I hope to see you there. If you want more info on other panels and authors at World Fantasy 2011, check the schedule out here.

Last but not least, though we’re not hosting a Halloween costume contest this year, we are planning one for next year. That way we’ll be able to celebrate the launch of The Blinding Knife, and give you all lots of time to come up with awesome costumes from the worlds of the The Lightbringer Trilogy  or The Night Angel Trilogy — and of course we’ll have some fun prizes for the best designs! More details will be posted as we get closer to the date.

The Best Kylar Stern Costume…Ever

Too late for Halloween costume contest–breathe a sigh of relief everyone else–Sam writes in, “This is me being Kylar. I reckon my costume smashes yours. =D

Uh, no arguments here. Sir.

Contest Winners!

There were more entries than I expected, and thank you to everyone who scrambled to make costumes on such short notice. In the end, there were two that really stood out. Ailuj, to whom I swore I wouldn’t take off points “for being a girl” (uh, Ailuj, that is, not me), and Paul K.:

Being the decisive guy that I am, I decided to choose… both. So Paul, Ailuj, well done and remind me to steer clear of dark alleys for a while. (Where DO you get a sword on short notice?) Each of you may choose one copy, signed, of any book of the Night Angel Trilogy, and I’ll send it to you ASAP. (Honorable Mention to Renji, who had the best assassin-who’s-going-to-rip-your-head-off pose.)
Also, please check the Reviews page for new reviews and interviews.

Book Giveaway

Fantasy Book Critic has a giveaway of the entire Night Angel Trilogy HERE. There are six complete sets up for grabs, three of US version and three of the UK version, which is fatter, and may spell words like “color” funny. 😉 Looks like it’s open to anyone.

Also, I will be posting the winner of the Halloween costume contest tomorrow. I’ve got it down to two finalists, and it’s killing me to choose between them, so check in tomorrow to see who won a signed copy of the book of their choice. (Uh, that is, out of my books. If you ask for a signed copy of the 24 volume Oxford English Dictionary, I’ll just hurt you.)

Close to Klingons Halloween Contest & Fan Art Contest

Should I reward madness?

Well, I’m going to. I know of at least one fan who intends to go to a Halloween party as Durzo Blint or Kylar Stern. So I have a VERY short notice Halloween Contest, wherein whomever has the best Night Angel Trilogy costume gets a signed copy of The Way of Shadows. I may–or may not if the winner goes as Vi–post the winning photograph. Send your entries to brent dot a dot weeks at gmail dot com. (Make appropriate substitutions for dots and the ampersand.) If there’s only one entry, well, he wins. If the winner wishes to have a signed copy of Shadow’s Edge or Beyond the Shadows instead, I will be happy to oblige. (Though I can only send Beyond the Shadows once I get it.)

Second, I have recently seen some pretty amazing fan art. Check HERE and HERE by Ajahli. Her blog HERE. So here’s a contest that already has a strong front-runner. Whoever submits the best fan art by November 30 will get signed copies of the entire trilogy, made out to whomever they wish, and mailed to them. Because I have no artistic talent myself, I have to confess I’m thrilled. Soo cool.

Please entitle your email “Costume Contest” or “Fan Art Contest” so I can sort them easily. Thanks.

Oh, I’ve also updated the Reviews page. If I’ve missed reviews on the intarwebs that are helpful, please post or shoot me an email. I’ll flag reviews that have too many spoilers.
