More details (and a list of all attending authors!) HERE.

U.S. Author Tour

I know you can often save money by buying online, but if you can, please consider buying the book at the bookstore that is hosting me–or their online portal. The host store goes to the effort of coordinating the event, spreading the word about the event, putting up signs, ordering extra books, and keeping over-worked staff late! If they go to all that work and then everyone buys the book online, they get discouraged and they also lose money. Don’t do that to our friends.

Because the practice of buying elsewhere has become so widespread, at a few stops, the store requires you to buy THE BROKEN EYE there. (Their house, their rules, sorry. I’m their guest.) In most cases, you can pre-order from the host store, (get pre-order goodies from me!), pick up the book on release day, read the whole thing before I arrive, and just keep your receipt. In some cases that will even put you in front of the line.

You can click the links to go to the Facebook events pages for each event, featuring maps, the bookstores’ FB pages where you can see if your friends are already going (or hector them into doing so!), and get more information.

We’ll be posting an update in a few weeks featuring details on whether you need to buy a ticket for the event, a book at the bookstore, and other helpful information. Stay tuned!

It’s that time of year again….

Yes, that’s right. It’s time to strap on your blaster and your Wookie suit. Or curl your hair into  that wicked hot bun! And goose-step or shamble your way down to the 5th SF Authorfest. As before, the fantastic Beaverton branch of Powell’s books will be hosting as many SFF (Science Fiction and Fantasy) writers as you can shake a lightsaber at on this Sunday, November 13th.

Scheduled to appear this year are Camille Alexa, Yours Truly, David Levine, Nina Kiriki Hoffman, Kristine Kathryn Rusch, Dean Wesley Smith, Peter Orullian, Mark Ferrari, Elizabeth Ann Scarborough, Kevin James Breaux, Meljean Brooks, Devon Monk, Lilith Saintcrow, J. A. Pitts, Timothy Zahn, Irene Radford, Ru Emerson, Adrian Phoenix, Andrew Mayer, Mary Robinette Kowal, Shannon Page, Claude Lalumiere, M. K. Hobson, Brenda Cooper, Vonda McIntyre, Louise Marley, and Ursula K. Le Guin.

Also in attendance will be the Cloud City Garrison of the 501st Imperial Legion with the Kashyyk Base of the Rebel Legion:

Directions to the event are available at the Powell’s website. The event starts at 4:30 pm and generally runs about 2 hours. So bring your love for all things SFF, and a wallet ready to disgorge itself.

Ew, that kind of grossed me out. Anyway, no fear, there is no need to dress up in any way, shape or form.

I look forward to seeing you!

Powell’s Signing — Thursday, September 8

Although I enjoyed my time at Dragon*Con in Atlanta, it’s always good to be home.  And what better way to celebrate the release of The Black Prism in mass market paperback than with fans in my own neighborhood?

So this Thursday, September 8, I’ll be reading from The Blinding Knife, answering questions, and signing books starting at 7pm. More details are here, and directions to Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing are here.

Brent at Powell’s Sci-Fi Authorfest IV

Brent at last year's SciFi Authorfest. Definitely not fungible!

Catch Brent (and many other fun, funky, frequently fungible fantasy fiction writers!) at Powell’s Fourth annual book-signing extravaganza on November 14th at 5pm at Powell’s Books in Cedar Hills Crossing.

Other authors include Lilith Saintcrow, Ilona Andrews, Devon Monk, Gail Carriger, Jay Lake… and the list goes on!

Go here for directions, and here for more info on the event. Hope to see lots of you locals there!

A Long Absence (by Kristi)

Like Punxsutawney Phil, Brent will soon be poking his head out of his hole. Except he’ll do it in November instead of February. Brent would be delighted to meet you, sign your books, and chat with you at Borderlands Bookstore in San Francisco, California on Monday, November 2nd or at Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing in Beaverton, Oregon on Sunday, November 29th (click here for details).

Channeling the predictive powers of the most famous groundhog in the world, will Brent see his shadow? (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.)  Will he finish writing Black Prism on time, or will there be six more weeks of writing?! Nevertheless, the two multi-author book signings will be great (although Brent gets nervous about signing his name and talking at the same time).

Thanks to Jude Feldman and Peter Honigstock for organizing the events!

On a side note that has nothing to do with groundhogs, have you seen The Night Angel Trilogy boxed set? It’s in stores now and we’re pretty excited about it. That line at the top still warms our hearts!

A Book Signing & Beyond the Shadows…

Despite that the official pub date is still two weeks away, Beyond the Shadows is now on shelves in some bookstores. I haven’t received my own copies–but the little bookstore down the street has. This left me in a quandary. Is it gauche to buy your own book? I decided that if I was going to pad my sales numbers, I’d at least do it on Amazon, so I could see the little sales rank counter jump… but then I’d have to wait anyway, so I just stared at my own book longingly a while and made comments to passersby like “Wow, this book looks great. Heard this guy is real talented. Look, a blurb from Terry Brooks!” Finally, I walked out of the store empty-handed. (But the manager says I can come back if I promise to stop harassing the customers.)

I will be taking part in a group book signing in Beaverton, Oregon at Powell’s Books at Cedar Hills Crossing on November 20. Check the link for lots of details and directions. Look for the guy with the short line. I haven’t been to this event before, but I heard it was a wild success last year (its inaugural year), and with twelve sci-fi/fantasy authors and artists including Timothy Zahn, Lilith Saintcrow, Eldon Thompson, and Jay Lake, I’m just really excited to have been invited. The only thing that makes me nervous? The line that concludes the event announcement:

“The Cloud City garrison of the 501st Imperial Legion will also be in attendance.”

Does that mean what I think it means?
